Program Renovation in Progress

Danielle’s Place has proudly served as an eating disorder resource centre for many years providing valuable services to youth and adults.

As part of the next chapter for Danielle’s Place, the parent company ROCK, has conducted a consultation and review process with families, our staff, Halton service providers and disordered eating resource centres in other regions.

We have learned that a central challenge in developing and providing assistance at the community level is the lack of sustained funding for community-based resource and support centres. Eating disorder support centres currently receive little or no public funding and depend on fundraising efforts to keep the doors open. Danielle’s Place is no exception. As a result, time and energy is spent looking for funding and many centres live month to month.

We know that there is an increasing need, and lack of, prevention and early intervention services for children and youth that are wrestling with the continuum of issues from early body image challenges, disordered eating and clinical eating disorders.

The onset of eating disorders are becoming apparent in younger individuals and affecting both male and female populations, the needs and demands for intervention (primary, secondary and tertiary levels) are only increasing.  Current intensive treatment in hospitals focuses on medical stabilization and re-feeding. This “one size fits all” approach is successful in only 25% of eating disorder cases, and therefore requires a wider net of support and pathways to and from medical programs.

Over the next four months, ROCK will be exploring the introduction of new programs that serve the range of need for people challenged by food and weight preoccupation, and disordered eating, adding additional programs that target early intervention and prevention and bringing more of the strength of mental health programming that ROCK is known for.

We will use this time strategically to renovate and improve our prevention programming, and increase our capacity to collaborate with specialized resources. We will advocate for the provision of sustained funding for Danielle’s Place in our community.
Welcome To Danielle's Place
Danielle’s Place is a centre that offers hope and healing in a safe, welcoming environment to those affected by an eating disorder.

Our mission is to provide a non-judgmental, caring and supportive community to any individual whose life has been touched by an eating disorder. Our mandate is to offer care that is complementary to the medical model. We promote a holistic and self-directed approach to healing through which families and individuals can begin, maintain or resume their healing journeys.

Danielle’s Place is a non-profit organization whose support programs, self-help tools and special events are designed to inspire, empower and motivate individuals along this difficult journey.
The Bold Run - A success
Danielle’s Place would like to express our gratitude to students from the Alliance Body Peace Student Club at McMaster University who, with the support of our own volunteers hosted an exceptional (if chilly) run on Saturday, March 28th.

With just under 100 participants who ran, walked and wheeled their way to the finish line, more than $3,000.00 was raised that will go directly to support programs and services for those whose lives are affected by eating disorders.
