Volunteers

Why Are Volunteers So Important?

Danielle's Place relies on volunteers to support our staff, facilitators and clients. Often our volunteers are the first person new visitors meet when they come to Danielle's Place. We are always looking for committed and caring people to join our team.

What Volunteers Can Do

There are many opportunites for volunteers to help us out, including:

Community Awareness Committee Volunteer

Danielle’s Place Community Awareness Committee is a vibrant committee concerned with increasing awareness of Danielle’s Place Eating Disorder and Resource Centre and our services throughout the community. Community Awareness Committee meetings are held monthly (either the second or third Tuesday of the month) and are held for two- three hours (from 7-8:30 p.m. at Danielle’s Place.) During the meetings, the Community Awareness Committee discusses ways of increasing awareness in the community including: hosting events, attending upcoming speaking events, successes of past events etc. Committee members are encouraged to promote Danielle’s Place and our services by putting up posters, contacting local media and contacting other social services. Joining this committee is a good opportunity to increase skills in networking, communication and community outreach. For more information about becoming a Community Awareness Committee Volunteer, please contact the Coordinator of Volunteer Services at Danielle’s Place.

Special Events (Day)Volunteer

Danielle’s Place frequently runs both small and large fundraisers throughout the year. During this time, we rely on the added assistance and help from students and other special events or one day volunteers to help us on the day of the event. Responsibilities may include helping to set up displays at events, increase awareness of our services and even assist with minor fundraising for the day. These are one day commitments and are perfect of students or those volunteers not able to make a long term volunteer commitment. For more information about becoming a Special Events (Day) Volunteer, please contact the Coordinator of Volunteer Services at Danielle’s Place.

*** NEW *** Youth Committee Volunteer (for individuals/students 13-17 years old)

Our youth committee is a new addition to the volunteer team at Danielles Place. Our youth committee is comprised of youth between the ages of 13 17 years old who wish to volunteer for Danielles Place outside the centre. While the committee may meet at Danielles Place for regular meetings, most volunteer activity will take place outside of Danielles Place. The purpose of the Youth Committee is to raise awareness about Danielles Place and its services as well as to generate possible small awareness events/ fundraisers. The youth committee, we hope will be a stepping stone for many of the youth in our community to begin their volunteer career with Danielles Place. This is a wonderful opportunity for youth as volunteering for the Youth Committee can: increase communication and networking skills, increase knowledge of social services in the community, build confidence in its members, provide necessary volunteer hours for high school completion/ requirements, be the beginning of a career in philanthropy/ volunteering. For more information about joining this committee, please contact Coordinator of Volunteer Services at Danielle’s Place.
